May 22 and 23, 2010
Thanks to everyone for coming to the Abilene Spring Shootout and Ironman Classic.  Walter Morrow won $90 in the Friday Poker Hand T-N-T and donated all that to the Food Bank.  Half of the Dial for Dollars rounds were collected for the Food Bank of West Central Texas. After adding in the personal donations, the race raised $1020 for the Food Bank.  Thank you very much for that effort.  And giant Thank you to our sponsors that made the race possible!
A. J. Enterprizes Top ET- Iron Man Final: Saturday's Top winner was unable to stay for the Sunday race, so the final in Top was the run for the Iron Man.  Joe Collier (top) and Will Carrell from Ardmore, Oklahoma lined up for the final pass.  Joe left first with a .021 light and then it was over as quick as it started when Will went -.027 red.  Joe got past Jerod Wilson in the semi-final round to get to the Iron Man final while Will got the bye in the semi's to make the Iron Man round.
Pinnacle Countertop Solutions Modified ET - Iron Man Final: You could call the Modified Iron Man round "Deja-Vu all over again" since it was the same guys from Saturday in the Iron Man final on Sunday.  And also just like Saturday,  the winner was Ty Casey (top) with  Bryant Manning as runner up.  Ty had a great final round, with a .006 light and a 6.28 on his 6.26 dial to win.  Bryant went .048 on the tree and ran a close 7.533 on a 7.52.
Longmire Plumbing Jr. Dragster - Iron Man Final: Chris Pearson (top) came up from San Antonio and earned a spot in the Iron Man round with a win on Saturday.  Chris is currently #2 in points down at San Antonio Raceway.  On Sunday, two time Abilene Jr. class champion Dustin Douglas (middle) took the win over Jalen Johnson in the Jr. final to make the Iron Man round.  You might also be surprised to know that Dustin and dad arrived late and went into Sunday eliminations without a single time trial.  The Iron Man run was a good match up, with Chris dialed in at 7.90 and Dustin dialed at 8.02.  Chris got the better light with a .030 to Dustin's .065.  At the finish it was Chris at 7.92 on the 7.90 and Dustin breaking out at 8.00 under that 8.02.
Max's Kawasaki Motorcycle: In the Motorcycle class, Harry Goebel of Hamlin (top) doubled up on his Saturday win and that earned him an Iron Man on Sunday.  2008 Abilene motorcycle class champ John Choat of Tuscola took out 2009 track champ Donnie Oliver in the semi-final, putting him up against Harry in the final.  All Harry had to do was win to get the Iron Man.  So, he did just that by going .059 on the tree and riding to a 6.42 on a 6.39 to nab the win.  John missed the tree and missed the dial a bit too, finishing up with a 6.08 on a 6.03 dial.  That's an excellent win for a young 63 year old, riding a fast street bike with no wheelie bars.
Whitten Inn Street Money-: Street money didn't run on Saturday, so the Sunday final round was the run for the Iron Man.  Chris Kelly was the Lucky Man, getting the win over Dean Kennedy in the final.  Chris had a pretty slow light and figured he was done for, even though the truck did well with a final bitty 10.68 break out on a 10.70 dial.  Dean passed him in the MPH box, grinning out the window, killing 8 MPH and coasting to a massive 8.89 breakout on a 8.99 dial.  The turbo Volkswagen had been running 9 to 9.05 all day, so who knows.  That just goes to show it really ain't over till it's over.
Top Gunslinger: There was some BIG money in the Top Gunslinger final, with nearly $4000 on the line for win and runner up.  Rusty Rose got the bulk of that, with a .082 light and a 4.72 on a 4.70 dial for the win.  Mark Ellis of Graham ran closer at 4.70 on a 4.69 dial, but his .108 light gave Rusty enough wiggle room at the finish line to take the stripe.
SATURDAY RACE RESULTS
A. J. Enterprizes Top ET: Phillip Pennington and Billy Williams had a real close nail biter final round in Top.  It was one of those "wait for the light to see who one" kind of rounds.  Phillip went .008 on the start and ran two off at 5.006 on a 4.98 for the win.  Billy had an even better .006 light but ran a hair farther off with a 5.246 on a 5.21 dial.  That works out to a.008 margin of victory at the finish line.  What, maybe a foot at 135 MPH?  Yeow!
Pinnacle Countertop Solutions Modified ET: Ty Casey and Bryant Manning wrapped up Saturday's Modified class, with Ty taking the win in the final.  Ty went .025 on the tree and drove to a 6.27 on a 6.26 for the win.  Bryant went dead on 7.553 on a 7.55 dial, but his .075 light gave the finish line to Ty.
Longmire Plumbing Jr. Dragster: Chris Pearson started his path to the Iron Man on Saturday when he took the win in Jr against Morgan Fulgham.  Chris cut the tree off with .007 light and finished up at 7.95 on a 7.90 dial.  Morgan ran a close 13.28 on a 13.24 dial but she could not cover Chris' excellent light and had to settle for runner up.
Max's Kawasaki Motorcycle: Harry Goebel got warmed up for his Iron Man run with a win in Motorcycle on Sunday.  Stacey Caulder took runner up honors.  Harry put a great .008 light on Stacey and posted a 6.55 on a 6.50 to get the win.  Stacey was a little late with a .103 light a then broke out trying to make it up, with the boards showing 6.02 under his 6.04 dial.
Top Gunslinger: The Top gunslinger final was a double break out race, featuring Amber Rose and Mark Ellis as the last pair.  Amber got the better end of the break out deal by about .002.  Mark had a great .010 light and ran 4.697 on a 4.70 dial for second place.  Amber had an excellent .016 light and broke out by a bit less, posting 4.828 on her 4.83 dial.  That's a .0018 break out for Amber and a .0033 break out for Mark.  That's pretty close.
Modified Gunslinger: Jeff Tibbetts, Pro Body Works lane sponsor, met up with Chris Kelly in the last round of the Mod Gunslinger.  Jeff had a bit better light with a .052 compared to Chris' .065.  At the stripe, Jeff took the win by staying over his dial at 6.09 ET against a 6.08 dial.  Chris took the stripe by .009 and broke out by .0089, running 8.161 under his 8.17 dial

Top ET Gamblers: Jared Winger of San Angelo went .024 oin the tree and 4.69 on a 4.67 to win the Top Gamblers.  Maxey Chittum had a bit slower .085 light, which was a real bummer since the Corvette ran dead on with a 5.214 on a 5.21 dial.

Modified Gamblers:  Billy Doucette of Snyder got the better of 2009 track Mod champ Sambo Tyra in the Mod Gamblers final.  Billy drove 6.35 ona 6.29 with a .055 light to earn the win.  Sambo ran dead on 7.083 on a 7.08, but missed the tree with a .134 light.
